Blog Tour & Review: THE BRITISH KNIGHT by Louise Bay

The British Knight, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Louise Bay is available NOW!!!

My Review:

Sometimes you just need a big fat change in your life in order to figure out what – and who – you want to be.

Violet finds herself in such a position when, jobless and moorless, she agrees to move from New York to London to work as an assistant to a barrister who turns out to be the deliciously hot and oh-so-closed off Alexander.

The two lock horns immediately, yet even as Alexander knows he should be more offended by Violet’s standing up to him, he secretly admires her for doing so. He’s also wildly attracted to her, as she is to him. Violet recognizes in Alexander a kindred soul of sorts: he, too, is in a life he enjoys on the surface but perhaps does not fulfill him as he thinks.

Louise Bay puts her couple through its paces as she brings them together. Alex and Violet have to earn each other, and, more importantly, they need to understand themselves. Each feels a certain amount of emotional constipation, whether because they feel unworthy or unable. I loved how Bay wrote Violet’s and Alexander’s scenes of self-discovery.

I also love how she wrote their sexy times. Strap on those vibrators, girls, because this book is scorching hot. Alexander is a truly Hot Hero, and you will fall in love with him.

The British Knight by Louise Bay
Release Date: December 5th
Genre: Contemporary Romance

When I’m offered the chance to leave New York to live in London for three months, I can’t pack my suitcase fast enough.

As soon as I touch down I’m obsessing over red telephone boxes, palaces and all the black cabs.

But my favorite place is the tube. It’s wall-to-wall hot British men in suits.

When I’m offered a temporary job working for a barrister, I say, sign me up.

On my first commute into work, it’s a total accident when I lose my balance and fall against the most handsome Brit alive. He’s as charming as James Bond and as suave as Mr. Darcy. I want to lick tea from his hard abs and listen to his accent all night long.

Turns out Mr. Handsome is my new boss. And his attitude isn’t as hot as his gorgeous face, broad shoulders and tight ass. He’s brooding, short-tempered and the most arrogant man I’ve ever met.

As we’re fighting, out of nowhere he kisses me. And I’m pretty sure I see fireworks over Big Ben and hear God Save the Queen.

I wasn’t looking for the fairytale but I might have found my knight in shining armor. The problem is he lives an ocean away.

A stand-alone, contemporary romance.

My workout this morning had been punishing. The harder I worked, the harder I worked out. I was a big believer in that if I wasn’t physically fit, I couldn’t perform as well in my job. And I was willing to do whatever I had to do to be the best barrister I could be. As a result, I’d been up since five, worked out until six thirty, and then had a conference call with Dubai at seven. I hated days when I was late into the office, but this morning couldn’t be helped. My commute had been . . . unusual. The woman I’d knocked into while getting off the tube had been beautiful, and I couldn’t keep the image of her gazing up at me in the middle of Lincoln’s Inn Fields out of my brain. I needed to focus. And perhaps get laid when I got the time. But it wouldn’t be tonight. I’d be working. I had hundreds of witness statements to go through and my opening statement to draft.

In three days, I’d be in court, and that was my sole focus. There was no time to be wasted on fantasizing about women.

As I trawled through my emails, trying to pick out the important ones from the hundreds littering my inbox, someone knocked at my door. I resisted the temptation to growl. I hated being interrupted—I needed a sign for the door.

“Come in,” I barked.

The door swung open, and I could tell by the footsteps that the head clerk had swooped in. “Mr. Knightley.”

“Craig.” I didn’t take my focus off my laptop screen. Craig was an avuncular and charming man in his mid-fifties. He’d been in the business since he was fifteen and had clerked my father. If anyone could interrupt me, he could. And he knew it. Over the years, I’d tried to get him to call me Alex, but he insisted all the clerks and admin staff call the barristers by their surnames. The bar could be a very old-fashioned place.

“I want to introduce you to your new assistant, Violet King.”

I paused, my fingers hovering over my keyboard. I knew nothing of this and would never have agreed to it—I worked alone. Slowly, I turned to find Craig in front of my desk, his eyebrows raised in expectation.

“My what?” I asked. A figure moved in beside him and I slid my gaze to the right. I found myself staring straight at the beautiful woman who’d invaded my thoughts since I’d arrived in chambers. What was going on? I looked away from her, sure that Craig would see my attraction to her if my eyes lingered over her for more than a split second.

Review: THE PLAN (Off-Limits Romance #4) by Ella James

The Plan (Off-Limits Romance #4)

by Ella James

Published by HEA Press, LLC
412 pages
Genre: romance
4.5 / 5

My Review:

When you read the blurb for this book, you might think that it’s a romantic comedy. Whiel there are moments of humor in it, this is far from a romcom. There is too much angst, and you will shed too many tears. You also will squeeze your thighs together in delightful need.

Gabe and Marley were married when they were young, and now, twelve years after their divorce, they find themselves reunited in a way: she’s renting an apartment in the same house where he lives. Their reunion, however, is far from joyful. Each holds resentments toward the other, although these largely are borne of misunderstandings.

Marley knows one thing: she wants to have a baby. And since Gabe is all brawny virility – not to mention wicked hot – why not grab onto his DNA and make this baby? First, though, she needs to convince Gabe, and he is more than a little reluctant. What Marley needs is a plan, even if it isn’t necessarily fool-proof.

Ella James infuses this book with depth and poignancy. There is more to both Gabe and Marley than you might expect. For instance, Marley struggles with some ambivalence toward her mother, and I really enjoyed the scenes in which she tries to navigate her way through those struggles. They felt real, as does Gabe’s grief over some struggles he faces.

The sexy times have the perfect amount of detail, and they will leave you gasping and panting. James refers several times to Gabe’s manliness and size, so you will have no trouble picturing him when he’s rocking the headboard. And you will thank her for every one of those tidbits. Gabe gives new meaning to the phrase “best-laid plans.”

You’ve heard this story before. Woman feels her biological clock ticking and gets someone to knock her up.
Not for love, for baby.
Crazy, right?
That’s what I thought.
Then I found out my fiancé had a vasectomy. The life I thought I had? Nope. Suddenly I’m 33, and I don’t even have a kissing buddy.
When my mom’s health takes a turn and I wind up back in my hometown of Fate, Alabama, I tell myself to leave things up to…well, you know.
Then I see Gabriel McKellan. He’s Fate’s most famous son, a bestselling author who is beautiful, complicated, and living just below me. In addition to his plus-sized brain, Gabe’s well-endowed in other ways, and great in bed to boot. I would know. He’s my ex husband.
When I suggest The Plan, I don’t imagine that he’ll take the bait. It’s been ten years, and we don’t work. But Fate has other plans for both of us.

Review: SEX HAPPENS by Carol Soloway

Sex Happens

by Carol Soloway

Published by Bayliss Enterprises
282 pages
Genre: women’s fiction
3.5/ 5

My Review:

Alexandra Rose, a successful chiropractor, heads to Las Vegas to spend her twentieth anniversary with her husband Gabe, a heart surgeon. She packs lacy lingerie and prepares to seduce Gabe back into the romance of their marriage. Unfortunately, Gabe not only is unreceptive, he announces that he’s been having an affair and wants a divorce.

Carol Soloway immediately makes you feel sympathy for Alex. She explains Gabe’s complaints about Alex’s infrequent interest in him through every day family busyness. The two share three active sons, and each has a medical practice. The day-to-day maneuverings and management of their family move Alex away from being Gabe’s wife and into more of a focus on motherhood. You sympathize with her. You worry for her.

To help Alex navigate her way through this new life, Soloway gives her a tight band of friends who support Alex and provide necessary guidance. Not that Alex won’t occasionally frustrate you with some of the decisions she makes. There are several times in which you will want to shout at her to stop doing what she’s doing because she’s making things worse.

There are a few plot points that are a bit of a head-scratcher and require a suspense of logic. Yet you forgive these lapses because the story is so gripping. You want to know what’s going to happen with Alex, particularly since Gabe is determined to get custody of their children. You want her to be victorious, even as Soloway makes you wonder how that will happen.

My biggest problem with this book is its title and cover. Both are misleading. The titular sex relates to something Gabe tells Alex, yet it doesn’t have much more significance in the novel. And the cover is just completely unrelated to anything you read. Yes, Alex has a bit of a sexual awakening, but it’s hardly the point of her personal growth.

Let me know what you think.

Dr. Alexandra Rose has everything a woman could want. She’s the wife of a renowned cardiologist, the mother of three adorable sons, and a successful chiropractor. But on their twentieth anniversary, her husband shocks her with his affair. Her life spins out of control, and she faces the other side of marriage where dreams implode and people are not who they seem.

Alexandra wants custody of her children, but so does her husband, and he’ll stop at nothing. Thrust into a nightmare spawned by chilling deception, a custody battle erupts that’s so poisonous it threatens to become murderous.

In this stay-up-all-night portrait of a contemporary family, Alexandra’s bittersweet journey of love, loss, and sexuality leads her to a miraculous discovery of self and power. Sex Happens explores the very essence of all we value as women—marriage, motherhood, sex—and what we’ll do for each.

About the Author:

After each decade of my life, I’ve changed careers, and writing is the synthesis of all of the knowledge and skills I’ve accumulated along the path. My first career was as an English teacher during which time, I completed a master’s degree in English. Ten years later, I went back to school and became a chiropractor and established a rewarding practice which my son, also a chiropractor, now runs. Another decade passed and another career beckoned. I became a Qualified Medical Examiner and have been enjoying the challenges of that career for—of course, ten years.

Since writing has always been my passion, I returned to school and took numerous creative writing courses including Squaw Valley Community of Writers summer program. Now, I’m enjoying the pinnacle of all of my careers as the author of SEX HAPPENS.

I live with my wonderful husband who is nothing like any of the characters in the novel. Together, we have five grown sons with families of their own, all of whom have promised not to read the sex scenes.

Review: CUFFED (Everyday Heroes Book 1) by K. Bromberg

Cuffed (Everyday Heroes Book 1)

by K. Bromberg

Published by JKB Publishing
395 pages
Genre: romance; women’s fiction
5 / 5

My Review:

When you read a book by Kristy Bromberg, you know that you will experience a lot of heat, a lot of love, a lot of angst, and some relatable, real-life moments that do not flinch.

Such is the case with Cuffed.

On its surface, this is a second-chance romance between two people who knew – even at age eight – that they were meant to be together. A broken promise nearly ruins everything, though, so much so that even the passing of two decades does not minimize the hurt and pain that Emmy feels for Grant, not to mention lingering feelings of that long-buried love.

Grant must work to regain Emmy’s trust, and when Bromberg reveals the horrors behind that broken trust, your heart will rupture in agony. Not just for Emmy, but for Grant, too. Doing the right thing sometimes means that you have to suffer. Grant learns this lesson in a painful way, as does Emmy.

Twenty years after Grant broke her heart, Emmy is operating a skydiving business. When you think about that, you realize that skydiving is all about trust. You have to believe – completely and utterly – that you are safe. That you will not be hurt. That you will survive and you will thrive. Emmy needs to adapt this mindset to her life in general and to Grant in particular.

Kristy Bromberg tells a romance with deliciously hot sexy times that scorch every page. There is also great humor, particularly involving Grant’s two younger brothers. And ever present are those moments that feel so real, the moments Bromberg writes so extraordinarily well.

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.

“I hate you. I never want to see you again.”

Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again.

Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past.

But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it.

What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right?

I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves.

That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up.

Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story.

I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight.

About the Author:

New York Times Bestselling author K. Bromberg writes contemporary novels that contain a mixture of sweet, emotional, a whole lot of sexy, and a little bit of real. She likes to write strong heroines, and damaged heroes who we love to hate and hate to love.

A mom of three, she plots her novels in between school runs and soccer practices, more often than not with her laptop in tow.

Since publishing her first book in 2013, Kristy has sold over one million copies of her books across sixteen different countries and has landed on the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists over twenty-five times. Her Driven trilogy (Driven, Fueled, and Crashed) is currently being adapted for film by Passionflix with the first movie slated to release in the summer of 2018.

She recently released a two book, sports romance series, The Player and The Catch. Cuffed is the first book in her new Everyday Heroes trilogy. This three-book series will be about three brothers who are emergency responders, the jobs that call to them, and the women who challenge them. The remaining standalones in the series are Combust (January 29th) and Cockpit (Spring 2018).

Release Day Launch, Excerpt, & Review: DIRTY FILTHY FIX (Fixed 5.5) by Laurelin Paige

From New York Times bestselling author Laurelin Paige, comes a sexy novella in her Fixed Trilogy Series…DIRTY FILTHY FIX, a new novella brought to you by 1001 Dark Nights! Grab your copy of this amazing novella today!

My Review:

Let’s talk about Hot Romance Novels. Or, to make a finer point, Hot Erotic Romance Novels.

Does anyone write them better – hotter, with more depth, with more tangible characters – than Laurelin Paige? I’m going to argue a “no” to that query.

If you doubt me, read this novella. It won’t take you long, and I can guarantee that by the last page, you are desperately one-clicking any Paige novel you don’t already own. And, really, you should own them all.

For one thing, Paige delivers an unconventional romance, one that makes you think about the different ways love can look.

The seventh of nine girls, the last thing Trish is interested in is the traditional fairytale. She doesn’t want marriage, and she certainly does not want children. At thirty-five, she envisions herself indulging in the kink that interests her and in maintaining her independence. She tells the story of Susan Sontag and Annie Liebowitz, lovers who lived across the street from each other and shared a lasting, passionate, love. Trish wishes the same for herself.

When she meets Nate Sinclair (whose name may sound familiar if you’ve read the Dirty Filthy duet), she finds a man who might – just might – be simpatico.

In addition to reconnecting you with characters from the Dirty Filthy duet, you’ll also get to see more of Paige’s Fixed series people, namely Alayna, Chandler, and – LE SWOON – Hudson. My favorite scene takes place during Weston’s wedding to Elizabeth (from Dirty Filthy). While we don’t see one of my favorite Paige heroes, Donovan Kincaid, Trish does overhear him. And she overhears him doing something FABULOUS.

Quite a lot of fabulous somethings happen in this book, in fact. Strap on those vibrators, girls, because Laurelin Paige treats you to some blazing hot sexy times. I broke out in a sweat (more than once) and thought I was going to squeeze my thighs so tightly that I’d cut off circulation (more than once).

Grab this novella. It is a perfect addition to the 1,001 Dark Nights family. If you’re already a Laurelin Paige fan, you’ll love seeing characters you’ve enjoyed in other books, and if you’re new to her, you will wonder what took you so long to find her.

Nate Sinclair. He’s delicious.

I like sex. Kinky sex. The kinkier the better.

Every day, it’s all I think about as I serve coffee and hand out business agendas to men who have no idea I’m not the prim, proper girl they think I am.

With a day job as the secretary to one of New York’s most powerful men, Hudson Pierce, I have to keep my double life quiet. As long as I do, it’s not a problem.

Enter: Nathan Sinclair. Tall, dark and handsome doesn’t come close to describing how hot he is. And that’s with his clothes on. But after a dirty, filthy rendezvous, I accept that if we ever see each other again, he’ll walk right by my desk on his way to see my boss without recognizing me.

Only, that’s not what happens. Not the first time I see him after the party. Or the next time. Or the time after that. And as much as I try to stop it, my two worlds are crashing into each other, putting my job and my reputation at risk.

And all I can think about is Nathan Sinclair.

All I can think about is getting just one more dirty, filthy fix.

Excerpt :

“I’d like a try.” It was the stranger with the green eyes.

Hot damn.

Of course the night would ramp up right when I announced I was leaving. I looked up at him expectantly, but he didn’t approach. I realized he was waiting for my invitation. He was definitely new. Everyone else knew Miss T was one of the most ready and willing participants in the room—to the point where some tried to take advantage of it. I never needed to issue invitations, but I often needed to reinforce boundaries.

“What are you waiting for, then?” I sat up straighter, ignoring Chuck’s grunt of complaint.

The stranger came forward with slow, swaggering steps. When he reached me, he loosened his bowtie a little before lowering himself to one knee at my side. He placed his arm next to mine on the chair, his fingers barely grazing my skin. Goosebumps sprouted up my forearm all the way to my neck, and he hadn’t even bent in to whisper yet.

And then he did. His breath skated over the shell of my ear, and my heart tripped unexpectedly in my chest.

How long had it been since that had happened from just the feel of someone breathing against me?

“I’m going to kiss you one way or another tonight,” he said, low and with such surety a shiver ran down my spine. “It’s your decision whether it’s now or later.”

So. Not just a voyeur then.

He sat back to study my features. My jaw was slack, and I scanned his expression, searching for a hidden motivation. My body tingled from head to toe. I was used to men—strangers—wanting me. I was used to them approaching me. I was used to them telling me how much they desired me.

Why was this man so different?

Maybe it was because those other men always looked everywhere in the room. When their eyes landed on me, I knew I was just one of many options.

This man…

He’d looked around the room. I’d watched him throughout the night. But nothing had interested him. I could tell by the way he was still wearing his jacket, by the way his eyes were only now beginning to dilate as they stared into mine.

He’d studied the room and decided nothing here had interested him but me.

That was definitely not the kink that usually got me off. That was Cinderella-story kind of kink. The fairytale kink with a happy ending was traditional, but a kink all the same—being chased. Being placed on a gilded pedestal. I never wanted to be somebody’s Only One in the Room. I liked having my own space. I liked being able to disappear when I wanted. I liked not having chains or boundaries. I was turning thirty-five soon. I wasn’t a starry-eyed teenager anymore. I knew what I wanted from life and love and relationships and sex. And it wasn’t a pedestal.

About Laurelin Paige:

USA Today and New York Times Bestselling Author Laurelin Paige is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She is represented by Rebecca Friedman.

Blog Tour, Excerpt, & Review: BODYGUARD by CD Reiss

Bodyguard, the highly anticipated new standalone from New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss is available NOW!

My Review:

If the angst of the Marriage Games / Separation Games duet and King of Code felt like too much to you, CD Reiss gives you a break in this book. Bodyguard does have its share of nervous agony, but the sense of emotional desolation that Reiss writes so well is missing here.

What replaces it is an undercurrent of suspense: will the stalker who has provoked and manipulated Emily keep wreaking havoc on her?

It helps that she has Carter Kincaid as her bodyguard. Carter quite literally shields Emily’s body with his own, and you will wish that you could trade places with her. He’s tall, big, strong, tough, and steady, even as he’s also tender and kind. He’s just so swoony that you won’t what to quit him when you turn the last page.

It could be easy to dismiss this as a simple romantic suspense novel, but in Reiss’s hands, it is so much more. There is a subplot regarding Emily’s wasted opportunities and what the realization of that does to her, and there is another subplot involving Carter’s family. Reiss wraps the former in a sort of melancholy and the latter in a loving sense of despair. I know that sounds strange, but trust me: Carter’s love for someone in his family is so intense that you can sense his hopelessness.

A word about the sexy times: they are delicious fun. They are steamy, succulent, and sizzling. Strap on your vibrators, girls, because Carter will fill you with NEED.

I enjoyed this book tremendously. My only quibble – and I know it sounds rather picky – is the denouement. The build-up is fierce and fraught, and then things happen that are talked about afterwards. You don’t see them as they occur, and I think you need that.

Bodyguard by CD Reiss

Release Date: November 14th, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Protecting a celebrity in Hollywood isn’t easy, but protecting Emily could break his heart.

As a world-class dancer at the height of her career, Emily enjoys all the perks of fame—the parties, the glamour, the tours—but they’ve also attracted the attention of a dangerous ex-boyfriend hell-bent on getting her back.

Enter Carter Kincaid, a bodyguard so crushingly sexy he takes her breath away.

Carter’s the best in the business, and Emily is—professionally speaking—off-limits. But when it comes to stirring his desires, she’s making all the right moves. What’s happening between them is so hot it could get both of them burned. As Emily’s past gets closer, Carter is willing to break every rule of the job to save her. But letting Emily into his life also means letting her in on the secrets of his own past. For these two, falling in love could be the greatest risk of all.

“Are we going to have another ‘about last night’ conversation?” I asked.

“If you want to.”

What did I want to say? Everything. but mostly, I wanted to tell him how much I liked kissing him and how conflicted I was. I wanted to demand answers immediately and give him space at the same time.

All the words tried to jump forward, but when he stopped at a light, our eyes met in the rearview. The words landed in a tangle, unsaid.

He tapped the steering wheel when he turned it, using both hands for the first time since I’d gotten in.

“Hey,” I said.

“Yeah?” He briefly looked at me in the mirror.

“What happened to your hand?”

“Burn.” he brushed his left hand over the bandage at the top of his palm, right where you’d burn it if you were picking up a hot pot handle. He caught my eye in the rearview again.

I didn’t know if I believed him.

“What were you cooking?”

“And you still went to get a Danish?”

He rubbed his upper lip with his left hand and tapped the wheel with the bandaged one.

“I burned my eggs.”

Right. Hot pot. Burned hand. Smoke-filled kitchen.

“You know what’s funny?” I said.

The Three Stooges.”

“I don’t know anything about you. You could live in your mother’s basement.”

“That’s just where I bury the bodies.”

Blatant avoidance. It had been cute before; now it was getting on my nerves.

“Are you married?”

He could have been lying, buy lying liars always lied. There wasn’t a thing I could do about that except make sure I asked.

Something was wrong. We’d kissed twice, and twice he’d shut down. I should have been the one shutting down. I was the one with all the ex-boyfriend baggage. Why was I the one who was always so willing?

But there he was in the front seat, driving with both hands on the wheel, glancing at me once in a while to make sure I wasn’t choking on my tongue in the back seat. Discomfort radiated out of him.

Here I was with my hands in my lap thinking about ways to kiss him again.

He pulled into the little lot and wedged into a space. He turned off the car, popped his seat belt, and stared at the wheel for a split second too long. I was about to open the car door myself when he turned all the way around, arm over the back of his seat, bandaged hand on the back of the passenger side.

“Kissing you…” He stopped and looked at my lips so intensely I folded them back and bit them. “You’re dangerous. I can’t even see your lips, but I can taste them. I couldn’t brush the taste of you out of my mouth this morning. Right now. The honey. I can taste it but not enough. I want to kiss you again, and I can’t. I lose my shit around you. I can’t do it. My job is control. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

My jaw loosened, and I let my lips go.

“No, I don’t. I’ve met bodyguards before. You’re a stoic bunch, but you’re not all celibate. And if you think this is easy for me, you’re wrong. I’m afraid too. I’m afraid you’re going to get hurt because of me. last night…” I put my fingertips to my lips as if that would keep the choking sob from coming. I kept it back. “Last night he showed me he’s back, and if he’ll hurt me, he’ll hurt you.”

If I thought seats would be a barrier between us, I was wrong. He launched himself between them and placed his lips on mine. Our third kiss was unexpected, uncomfortable with him stretched between front and back. I wove my fingers in his hair, giving him my mouth, and taking his.

I wanted that kiss to tell him it was all right. He could lose control. He could bemore than a protector. He was as safe with me as I was with him. But I couldn’t without lying to both of us.

He yanked his lips away.

“Trust me.” He leaned his forehead against mine.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

But then there is Lachlan Mount, who shows you that you don’t even know what a Hot Hero is. Thankfully, he is here to school you on that one.

The last time we saw Lachlan, in Ruthless King, he had slammed the door to Keira’s apartment, leaving her vulnerable. As he storms off, her believed-to-be-dead husband emerges and puts her at danger. The good news is that March doesn’t leave you dangling too long before she tells you what happened. The bad news is strictly for Lachlan and Keira: their feelings for each other are starting to become confusing, making them vulnerable. And one thing our ruthless king and defiant queen absolutely despise is vulnerability.

You learn more about Lachlan in this book. You’re in his head more, and March reveals his inner workings and thoughts. There is one scene that sent more than a tear or two from my eyes, a moment when Lachlan’s dreaded vulnerability for Keira is displayed in such a poignant way.

I’m not going to tell you too much of this book’s plot because you should enjoy every word as a fresh surprise. The one thing I will tell you is that March treats you to some scorching hot sexy times. Lachlan is just a tremendous Hot Hero. I can’t get enough of him.

As this is the second of a trilogy, go into it knowing that it ends with a SCREAM. And that scream will be yours when you realize you have to wait until Sinful Empire to have a resolution.

Every time I read one of Meghan March’s books, I am convinced it’s my new favorite. The same with this one. I know already that I will need more Lachlan Mount even when this series is finished.

I’m his entertainment. His toy. Payment on a debt.
I tell myself I hate him, but every time he walks into the room, my body betrays me. How can I want him and fear him in the same moment?
They told me he’d mess with my head. Make it go to war with my body.
But I didn’t realize it would be complete anarchy.
I should’ve known better. When Mount’s involved, there are no rules.
I will not surrender. I will not show weakness. I’ll stand my ground and make it out of this bargain with my heart and soul intact.
But he has other plans . . .

Defiant Queen is the second book of the Mount Trilogy. Mount and Keira’s story concludes in Sinful Empire.

Release Blitz, Giveaway, & Review: WISH YOU WERE MINE by Tara Sivec

Wish You Were Mine

by Tara Sivec

Published by Forever Yours
368 pages
Genre: romance; new adult
4 / 5

My Review:

When Cameron and Everett were growing up, the two, together with other BFF Aiden, had a tradition. On a day they designated to celebrate their birthdays, they each wrote down a wish on a star-shaped piece of paper and tucked the wishes away in boxes they hid in a tree house. It is a tradition they continued, even into college.

But now, five years after Everett left to join Doctors Without Borders and months after Aiden’s death, the bond that Cameron and Everett shared threatens to dissolve amidst acrimony, misunderstandings, and miscommunications.

Tara Sivec establishes two things straight from the start: Cameron has loved Everett ever since she can remember, and Everett has loved Cameron just as long. Not that either has shared that information with the other. She is terrified that he doesn’t feel the same way, and he is terrified that he doesn’t deserve her.

Now that Everett is back, he and Cameron need to heal their relationship. This proves particularly challenging because she is so full of bitterness and resentment over why she thinks Everett left that she does not want to hear anything he has to say. Everett, meanwhile, is so full of guilt and self-loathing that he is even more convinced that he does not deserve Cameron.

In other hands, this might feel contrived and forced. But as Tara Sivec writes it, it feels believable and poignant. Everett’s pain infuses every page, even the ones in which he does not directly appear. You want to grab Cameron and force her to see how pained and bereft he is, yet at the same time, you know that she, too, has some healing to do.

There are some searing sexy times in this book, but you have to be patient. Sivec doesn’t throw them in for the sake of hot headboard rocking. She builds and builds, making her characters earn those moments together. I actually got teary-eyed while reading a particularly beautiful first kiss.

My only quibble is a subplot involving some threatening notes Cameron receives related to a camp she runs for children of military veterans. It just sort of felt unnecessary.

This book is poignant and romantic, and you will love it.

From the USA Today bestselling author of The Story of Us and Fisher’s Light comes a new, standalone novel—a heartwrenching story about first loves and second chances that will make you fall in love all over again….
Five years. I would’ve stayed away longer if I hadn’t received the letter. Not a day has gone by that I haven’t thought about her, haven’t missed her smile, haven’t wished that things were different.
The last time I saw my two best friends, I vowed to not stand in the way of their happiness, even if that meant I couldn’t be a part of their lives. Cameron James and her emerald-green eyes were too much of a temptation and I couldn’t stay and watch them together. Cameron deserved better than me. She deserved him.
But now that I am back, things are different. I’m not going to stand by and watch the woman I’ve always loved slip away again. I’m done living my life with regrets and I’m ready to tell her the truth. And I’ll do whatever it takes to show her that I always wished she was mine.

Blog Tour, Excerpt, Giveaway, & Review: AN EX FOR CHRISTMAS by Lauren Layne

Named Best Book of the Month by Amazon
Love Unexpectedly
Lauren Layne
Releasing Nov 7, 2017

My Review:

Lauren Layne is one of my favorite authors. Going into her books, I know she is going to introduce me to a couple with whom I want to be friends – people I wish I knew in real life.

And now she combines that with a frisky Christmas friends-to-lovers romance that will have you looking for mistletoe everywhere you go.

A resolute believer in signs, Kelly conducts her life based in no small part on what her myriad of Magic 8 balls tells her to do. When a woman at a subway station tells her that she will find her true love before Christmas and that he’s someone from her past, Kelly immediately assumes the dude is an ex. As she heads home, she writes up a list of those exes, determined to track down her true love.

The first guy she runs into is her lifetime best friend Mark. It’s clear that there is more to the two of them than just friends, even if Kelly can’t see that. Layren Layne shows you from the start that Kelly need no look further than her back yard, but that’s not the kind of girl Kelly is. She is someone who needs to learn from her mistakes, even if she breaks your heart while doing so.

Since this is a Lauren Layne romance, you can expect some deliciously hot sexy times. And since it’s also a holiday romance, you can expect Christmas charm wherever you go. I loved watching Kelly slowly realize what she has overlooked, and I absolutely loved how Mark tried to show her the truth. My only wish is that he’d been a little bit more developed. There just wasn’t enough Mark, which isn’t a complain so much as a compliment. He’s a great guy.

An Ex for Christmas is a fast-paced, fun, holiday romance that will warm you up – in more ways than one.

She’s making a list—and checking it twice. But is there a nice guy among all her naughty exes?
The New York Times bestselling author of Blurred Lines returns with a
charming friends-to-lovers rom-com.

When a psychic tells spunky, superstitious Kelly Byrne that she’s already met her true love, she becomes obsessed with the idea of tracking him down before Christmas. Kelly immediately writes up an “Ex List” and starts contacting old boyfriends to figure out which one is the one. When her college sweetheart rolls into town, Kelly convinces herself that they’re meant to be. The trouble is, sparks are flying with someone she’s never given a chance: her best friend, Mark.
Mark Blakely has watched the guys on Kelly’s list break her heart, and he’s not looking forward to watching them do it all over again. Mark’s always been there for her, but the timing’s never worked out for their relationship to be something more. Now, just as Mark is ready to move on, the sexual tension between them is suddenly off the charts. With Christmas morning around the corner, he just hopes Kelly will wake up and realize that everything she wants has been right in front of her all along.

Lauren Layne is the New York Times bestselling author of romantic comedies. She lives in New York City with her husband.
A former e-commerce and web marketing manager from Seattle, Lauren relocated to New York City in 2011 to pursue a full-time writing career. She signed with her agent in 2012, and her first book was published in summer of 2013. Review & Excerpt: HOOKING UP by Helena Hunting

Hooking Up

by Helena Hunting

Published by Swerve
444 pages
Genre: romance; erotic romance
4 / 5

My Review:

I’ve been a big fan of Helena Hunting’s for some time. Alex, Violet, and Lance are particular favorites of mine, and Hunting’s Hot Romance Novels never fail to entertain. Going into Hooking Up, I thought there was no way that Hunting could top Alex and Lance, but she does. Lexington might just top them all.

He met Amalie first, and the connection he felt with her was instantaneous. Unfortunately, his feckless cousin Armstrong got to her and now they’re getting married. Their wedding reception proves unforgettable when Armstrong is heard, over the PA system, receiving a certain sexual favor. Humiliated and disgusted with herself for marrying this toad, Amalie decides to go on her honeymoon anyway. Seated next to her on the trip over is Lexington.

Okay, so you probably can figure out where this is going to go. The fun is in how Hunting gets you there. You may be surprised at some of Amie and Lex’s interactions, and you may be surprised at some of the choices and decisions they make. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will squeeze your thighs together.

My favorite parts of this book were those in which Lex had to face the less-than-savory parts of himself. He had to own certain behaviors; otherwise, he and Amie could never be together. Self-examination is never a simple, pain-free process, and Lexington suffers as he accepts his role in a cycle of one-ups-manship. Amalie, too, has to confront mistakes she has made. Settling for security over emotional intimacy seems easy, but what message do you send yourself when you do?

Of COURSE the sexy times are phenomenal. Lex chooses to use these moments as a means to convey to Amie how he feels about her, whereas, for her, their hot headboard rocking helps her discover that sex can be rock-you-to-the-stratosphere phenomenal.

Helena Hunting fans will love this book. For those of you new to her, this is a pretty solid introduction. You get the love, you get the erotic, and you get the emotional poignancy.

Amalie Whitfield is the picture of a blushing bride during her wedding reception–but for all the wrong reasons. Instead of proclaiming his undying love, her husband can be heard, by Amalie and their guests, getting off with someone else. She has every reason to freak out, and in a moment of insanity, she throws herself at the first hot-blooded male she sees. But he’s not interested in becoming her revenge screw.

Mortified and desperate to escape the post-wedding drama, Amalie decides to go on her honeymoon alone, only to find the man who rejected her also heading to the same tiny island for work. But this time he isn’t holding back. She should know better than to sleep with someone she knows, but she can’t seem to resist him.

They might agree that what happens on the island should stay on the island, but neither one can deny that their attraction is more than just physical.

Filled with hilariously scandalous situations and enough sexual chemistry to power an airplane from New York City to the South Pacific, Hooking Up is the next standalone, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy from Helena Hunting, the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series and Shacking Up.

“Did you honestly think that coming here and telling me you let Brittany, of all people, blow you during our wedding reception for my benefit was going to win me back? How delusional are you?”

“Amalie, you know how this works. I love you. You’re my wife. I hold you to a higher standard. Everyone needs a mistress or two. They’re what deep throating is for, and maybe anal.”

My mouth opens and closes a few times. I can’t even process what he’s telling me. “A mistress or two?”

“For variety.”

“What about the sanctity of marriage?” I’m starting to feel ill as this new, horrifying reality sets in.

Armstrong shakes his head and purses his lips as he struggles to find the right words. “It’s really just a guideline.”

I sink into the chair, my knees weak. I thought I’d moved past all the anger and sadness into some level of acceptance, but I’ve just been slingshotted back to ground zero. My head is swimming, it feels like I’m drunk, even though I haven’t even had my morning mimosa yet. “Were you ever faithful to me? At all?”

“I’ve never had sex with anyone but you since we’ve been together.” He adds, “I’ve never kissed anyone, either.”

“I don’t understand what that means.”

“It’s just a blow job, Amalie. That’s all. Nothing more.”

“Nothing more?” I echo. “You let someone who is not me blow you at our wedding. That’s not nothing, Armstrong, that’s cheating.”

“I think you’re working under an antiquated view of what constitutes infidelity. A blow job doesn’t qualify as cheating.”

My shock seems to be boundless. “In what world?”

He rests his palm against his chest. “Amalie, you have my heart. That’s the only thing that matters here. We can work this out. It’s an excellent partnership.”

I can’t listen to any more of this. If I do, there’s a good chance I’ll end up committing murder. I don’t know what Bora Bora’s prison system is like but I’d prefer not to find out. I point to the door. “Get the fuck out.”

“Amalie, you need to be reasonable.” He’s standing right in front of me. His crotch level with my face.

“Or what?” I wonder how many times Brittany has gotten on her knees for him. I wonder if she’s the only one. It seems unlikely based on what he’s just said.

“I’m being nice right now, Amalie. You’ve had a week to adjust your expectations. And people are talking. I don’t think you really want to push my buttons any more than you already have, do you?” His eyes are dark and angry as his fingers wrap tightly around my bicep, squeezing.

“Get your hands off me!” I try to shake free of him, but his grip tightens.

My reaction is instinctual, my years of self-defense kicking in. I cock my fist and punch him square in the nuts, bringing him to his knees.

His mouth drops open in shock as he cups himself and falls to his side on the floor, curled up in the fetal position. “Why?” he gasps.

My chair tips back as I push up to stand. “Because you’re a pussy, and a cheater, and you tried to threaten me with force.” I grab my phone with shaking hands and pull up my contact list, stepping over Armstrong as I scroll to the one and only person who can help me right now.
