About On Solid Ground:

June 5, 2008 I made a mistake of epic proportions. Moving home was an easy choice because I knew that I had to make things right. I had hoped to win back Harley’s friendship, but I never imagined that I’d win her heart … or the heart of her son. Now that I have, I’m never letting them go. They’re my life, the reason I breathe. We’ve worked hard to get where we are, and we’re finally standing on solid ground.

Or so I thought …

***

Tyson’s ex-fiancé wasn’t supposed to move back to St. Louis … that wasn’t part of the plan. And she sure as hell wasn’t supposed to start working with him. I trust him—at least I think I do—but when secrets are being kept and things start to unravel, I’m left wondering if I made a mistake. I allowed myself to fall in love with the only man to ever break my heart.

And now I’m afraid he might break it again …

This is a Harley and Tyson Touch of Fate Novella and can be read after book #1 or book #2 but should not be read as a standalone.

About K.L. Grayson:

Kirby_9135K.L. Grayson resides in a small town outside of St. Louis, MO. She is entertained daily by her extraordinary husband, who will forever inspire every good quality she writes in a man. Her entire life rests in the palms of six dirty little hands, and when the day is over and those pint-sized cherubs have been washed and tucked into bed, you can find her typing away furiously on her computer. She has a love for alpha-males, brownies, reading, tattoos, sunglasses, and happy endings…and not particularly in that order.

all that's left to hold onto live

My Review:

There is something so sweetly endearing about this book that you forget, for a moment, that there is also a pretty hot romance going on.

Keely and Ronan have been separated by, first, years, and then later distance. He’s seven years her senior, and when he left town five years ago, he unknowingly (or not) took a big chunk of Keely’s heart – and confidence – with him. Ronan had been her protector, the one person she could count on in an otherwise neglected life. Ronan never made her feel unwanted.

But he had to leave, and now he’s had to return, not just to the scene of his miserable youth but to Keely as well. Gone is the hero worshipping fourteen-year-old; in her place is an independent woman determined to make her own choices.

Ronan and Keely discover a love that they did not know they could feel, and it is not for each other. Those feelings are a bit more complex, wrapped up as they are in memories and histories. Keely has to learn that she is worthy of loving and being loved, and Ronan has to learn that our families do not define us unless we let them.

The love at the center of this novel is pure, innocent, and life altering. The love that springs form that is hot, passionate, and will require that you strap on your vibrator. Yes, Ella Fox writes some deliciously hot sexy times, and, what’s even better, is that those sexy times are true to her characters.

This is a pretty quick read, and it likely will give you the feels. And I don’t just mean the feels that require said strapping on of vibrators.

all that's left to hold

Blurb

When Ronan Sharpe unexpectedly left Colorado for parts unknown, he took a piece of Keely Carmichael’s heart with him.

After leaving his hellish roots behind him, Ronan found contentment when he started over. Thoughts of the past had been pushed down for so long; he hardly thought about it at all.

He intended to keep it that way.

When unexpected circumstances force Ronan to return to Colorado, the Keely he finds is no longer the adolescent girl he remembered. Torn between desire and fear, Ronan struggles with his feelings for Keely and his need to escape the town that scarred him so deeply years ago.

Letting go is all Ronan’s ever known. Will he realize a life with Keely is something he should hold onto at any cost?

PROLOGUE

There were nasty looking bruises on his cheek and jaw, his lip was swollen and his knuckles were scraped and bloody.  The instant I got a good look at his face I knew something was horribly wrong.  It only went downhill from there.

My attempts to contain my panic weren’t working.  Choking back a sob I blubbered, “Why do you have to go?”

The anger was all but pouring off of him.  Not toward me—he’d never once been angry with me. I knew anger though, and it was more than obvious he was furious about something. A permanent grimace seemed to have set up camp on his face.  For him, it was highly unusual.  Even in the toughest of times, he kept his cool.

Suddenly, he wasn’t calm at all.  He was angrier than I’d ever seen him.  It was obvious he’d been in a fight, but it didn’t change his status as the most attractive guy alive, in my opinion.

I saw his jaw clenching and unclenching which I figured meant he was trying to control himself.

“Because this piece of shit town is like a fucking cancer,” he spat.  “I’m so done with the crazy assholes around here. People like us aren’t normal—we’re the freaks for trying to be good people.”

I didn’t know how to argue with his words.  He wasn’t wrong—there was a lot wrong with many of the people in our town. Most of the crazy people were either my family members or his.  I knew it and so did he.  There wasn’t a response to erase the reality of the kind of people we dealt with.

“Are you going alone?”

His hands clenched into fists at his sides as he nodded stiffly. “Yes.”

“Even though you live with—”

His hand shot up into a stop gesture to keep me from finishing the sentence.

“Don’t say her fucking name. If I never hear it again, it’ll be too soon. I don’t live with that crazy bitch anymore.”

I couldn’t stand her so it wasn’t like I was going to push. She was an evil troll. If he had to go, I was glad he wasn’t taking her with him.  It would’ve made me ill. She pretended to be sweetness and light when he was around but it was nothing but a charade.  She was terrible.  I was glad he wasn’t taking her, but the fact he wouldn’t say her name told me his leaving was somehow her responsibility. I hated her more than ever.

“Where will you go?”

He gestured back over his shoulder toward the street with his thumb.

“Wherever my car takes me once I pull out,” he said.

I couldn’t imagine life without him, nor did I want to. Not only had he been my crush for as long as I could remember, he was the only person who ever really listened to me.

“Will you ever visit?” I asked hopefully.

He was shaking his head in the negative before I’d even fully finished asking the question. I knew he wouldn’t. The bone-deep hatred he had for everything about where we lived was stamped all over his face.  I wanted so badly to know what, exactly, had sent him over the edge, but when I asked, he’d refused to tell me.

It sucked being fourteen because he treated me like a kid.  My age said I was a child, but I was so different than any of my peers it wasn’t even funny.  Because of this, they teased me often, referring to me as Granny Carmichael.  I hated it.  It wasn’t as though I’d had a choice.  My childhood was over the moment my mother got sick.

His expression softened when he looked me over. “You need to get back inside before you get pneumonia.”

The frigid Colorado air wasn’t even making an impression on me until he pointed it out. I realized my tears were leaving cold trails on my face, but I couldn’t walk away. All I cared about was how much I didn’t want him to leave.

“I don’t care about the cold or getting pneumonia.  I don’t want you to go!” I cried anxiously.

He hugged me then, his strong arms wrapping around me to give comfort.  I hadn’t hugged him since I’d been much younger—probably five or six.  Those hugs had mostly involved me wrapping myself around one of his legs.  This was different. I wrapped my arms tight around him and cried against his chest, holding on for as long as he allowed me to.

“I’m sorry,” he said as he ended the embrace and stepped back. “I have to leave.”

Knowing my denial and resistance weren’t going to make any difference, I swiped at my tears as I nodded.

“I’ll miss you,” I said on a choked sob.  “Take care of yourself.”

“I’ll miss you too,” he replied softly.  “You’re one of the few good people here.”

My heart galloped in my chest. I loved him for saying what he did—but hated that it came at such a horrible price.  Losing him was unbearable.

He turned as if to leave, then stopped.  Spinning back my way, he stared at me intently for a few moments before he spoke again.

“You’re so much better than any of these people. Don’t ever let them change who you are. The world needs a lot more you and a lot less them. No matter what anyone tells you—you’re perfect.  Got it?”

I nodded as I wiped at the tears running unchecked down my face.

He hugged me again, very briefly. My heart skipped a few beats when he dropped a kiss on top of my head.

“Don’t ever forget your worth—not even for a minute,” he murmured.

When he let go, he said nothing else.  He just turned and walked to his car.  As he went, the chill in the air suddenly took hold of me.  Hugging my arms around myself, I watched as he got into the car, turned it on and then pulled out of my driveway.  He looked at me one last time before putting his hand up in a goodbye gesture.  I did the same.  A few seconds passed before he put the car in drive then sped off into the night.

I stayed outside for two or three minutes, hoping against hope he would change his mind and come back.

He didn’t.

Hours later when I got into bed, I prayed fate would bring him back one day.  I said the same prayer most nights for a long, long time. Eventually I had no choice but to accept reality.
Hell would freeze over before he returned.

SOME SORT OF CRAZY (Natalie and Miles): A Happy Crazy Love Novel

some sort of crazy 2 Some Sort of Crazy (Natalie and Miles): A Happy Crazy Love Novel

by Melanie Harlow

Published by Melanie Harlow
236 pages
Genre: romance
4 / 5

Blurb:

When a psychic tells Natalie Nixon her life is about to be upended by a mysterious stranger, she laughs it off. After all, she has everything she’s ever wanted—a successful bakery, the perfect boyfriend, and the keys to her dream house.

Who could possibly make her want to throw all that away?

Then Miles Haas comes back to town.

But he’s no stranger—they’ve known each other since high school. Plus, he’s only around for the summer, he’s still a shameless playboy, and he makes a living writing articles for a men’s magazine with titles like ‘Should You Bang the Boss’s Daughter? A Flowchart’ and ‘Butt Stuff for Beginners: A Field Guide.’

He’s not the man of her dreams, and she’s not about to abandon everything she’s worked so hard for just for a little fun. Except he makes her laugh like no one else, smells like heaven, and wears panty-melting glasses.

My Review:

Miles Haas may not be Sebastian Pryce, but that doesn’t mean that Miles is not a fabulous romance hero.

Natalie and Miles have been friends since they were kids. They played together, they grew up together, and they cared deeply about each other. Before he heads off to college, Miles confesses something to Natalie, something she doesn’t quite ignore but doesn’t quite take seriously. To fully acknowledge what Miles divulges would upend her world.

Nearly a decade later, Natalie and her sisters head out for an evening of alcohol-fueled celebration. Older sister Jillian is beginning her medical practice, Skylar is engaged to (sigh) Sebastian, and Natalie’s coffee shop and bakery is a professional success. The girls make a drunken appearance with Madame Psuka, and the psychic predicts that a man – decidedly not Natalie’s boyfriend Dan – will upend her world.

Only one man can do that, and Natalie isn’t quite sure how she feels about it.

Miles, a sex blogger, rolls back in to Natalie’s life within minutes of her departing from Madame Psuka. While he doesn’t show up to get Natalie per se, he most certainly does want her away from Dan, someone everyone knows is wrong for her, even Natalie. But she’s the sort of person who, when she commits, is fully committed.

You were first introduced to Natalie in Some Sort of Happy, which is Skylar and Sebastian’s story. I love Sebastian, so I admit to some skepticism about Miles. Could Melanie Harlow captivate me as heartily with Miles as she did Sebastian?

Not quite.

There is something about Sebastian, with all of his quirks and struggles, that melts my cold hard heart. Miles’s biggest affliction is his belief that he isn’t ready for a committed relationship. He suspects he might be; he kind of wants to have that one person, maybe start a family. And if he were to do that, there is no one he’d rather have with him than Natalie.

He thinks.

He can’t quite be 100% certain.

And on that hinges the success of his relationship with Natalie. She absolutely is ready for permanence. She thinks it’s supposed to be with Dan, but he sort of exits stage left, leaving her open for Miles. (That, perhaps, is why I can’t give this book more than four stars: whither Dan? I expected him to be more of a nuisance-type presence than he is, either physically or emotionally.)

Whereas Skylar and Sebastian had to overcome Sebastian’s compulsive issues, Natalie and Miles have to get past that hoary chestnut known as commitment phobia. Melanie Harlow fully invests you in their emotional ups and downs, making you feel protective of them.

I enjoy books that flip back and forth from the male to the female POV, and Harlow does that here. Miles may not fascinate me as much as Sebastian does, but he is someone I rooted for. I feel like I know a Miles or two in my ‘real’ life, and Harlow evokes the affectionate frustration I occasionally feel with them.

Harlow also delivers the hot headboard rocking. Strap on your vibrators, girls, as you get to know Miles and Natalie. Let’s just say that he’s learned a thing or two from that whole sex blogger gig, and he is ready to wield his knowledge.

You do not need to have read Some Sort of Happy to understand this book, but you really should read Some Sort of Happy. Read them both. And then come back and let me know in the comments who you preferred: Miles or Sebastian.

About the Author:

I was broken before I met Sebastian Pryor, but he decimated me. I swept the ashes of myself into a pile that I kept safe for thirteen years. Believe me it wasn’t pretty, oh but people thought we were perfect. I hate myself most days. I hate that I feel for him as much as I loathe who I’ve become with him. This story is hard to hear. You know what the worst part is? You’ll see part of you in me. You’ll hate that. You won’t tell anyone.

My story is about cracks. A description or telling of how cracks in a marriage, a life, a personality, a heart and a mind begin and continue for years without anyone knowing. You don’t always see what causes the fissure, but you feel it. Can you remember who you were before all of this started, before your life became a jumble of deceit, longing and regret?

This book isn’t for anyone who needs a happily ever after.

This book isn’t for anyone who needs a fun time out from their life.

This book isn’t for anyone, but me.

This is my story. I won’t apologize for it.

Teaser Tuesday: I’LL BE THERE (Montgomery Brothers #6)

I’LL BE THERE
Montgomery Brothers #6
Samantha Chase
Releasing Dec 1st, 2015
Sourcebooks Casablanca

Book #6 in New York Times and USA
Today
bestselling author Samantha Chase’s popular Montgomery series

This
Montgomery Has a Head for Business

Working for Zach Montgomery is
challenging on many levels-coming from a wealthy and powerful family, he lives
by his own rules and doesn’t answer to anyone. But Gabriella Martine has no
intention of backing down. She’s used to handling stubborn men, and it doesn’t
hurt that Zach is smart, charismatic…and gorgeous.
And a Heart for Adventure

Zach’s perfect world is turned
upside down when a climbing accident leaves him broken, angry, and maddeningly
dependent. In his slow quest for recovery, Gabriella is always there to
help…but as Zach comes to see his beautiful assistant in a new light, he is
forced to re-evaluate what it really means to be a man worthy of Gabriella’s
love.

Pre-Order Today

Reaching across the table, Zach took one of Gabriella’s hands in his and just marveled at how soft it was. He always wondered what her skin felt like and now that he knew, he wanted to feel more. “Don’t leave me. Please.”

Her blue eyes filled with tears and she used her free hand to quickly wipe them away before they fell and then studied their hands on the table. “Zach,” she said softly, “we’ve been over this.”

“I know, I know,” he replied just as softly. “I need another chance, Gabriella. I need a chance to make things right.” He looked up, his gaze meeting hers. “I need you.”

Deciding to be bold, he turned her hand over and twined their fingers together and gently squeezed. He was surprised she didn’t pull away and thought maybe—just maybe—they were making progress. “I know I can’t erase the things I’ve said and done, but if you’ll give me one more chance, Gabs, I promise not to screw up. If I do anything to upset you, you can walk away. Hell, you can slap me in the face, kick me in the shin or throw something heavy at me and I’ll take it. I just…I can’t do this without you.”

Her eyes never left their joined hands.

“I don’t want to do this without you,” he said quietly.

“I’m afraid to…believe you.” He barely heard her words, they were uttered so softly.

Everything inside of him clenched with pain. His always confident, ever-efficient assistant was now distrusting and uncertain—because of him. “I don’t know what to say to make you believe me. Tell me. Tell me what I need to do. Anything. Anything you need from me to gain your confidence, and I’ll do it.”

She looked up at him. “It’s not that easy. Every day I walked into the office, I gave you another chance. Every time you berated me or made me feel like I screwed up and I came back, I gave you another chance. From my standpoint, you’ve had two years’ worth of second chances. I think I’ve been more than generous.”

His other hand reached out to cup her hand in both of his. “I know you have and you have no idea how much I appreciated it.” She looked at him with disbelief. “It’s true! I know I never said it but every morning you were there, I was thankful. Every time you walked into my office, I was thankful. Please. I’m begging here, Gabs.”

Whatever life throws their way, Alex and Drew remain best friends with their own traditions. Drew is Alex’s family, her rock, and Alex keeps Drew grounded, always challenging him to better himself.

When years of buried feelings rush to the surface, they threaten to change everything…

Drew promised his mother he’d tell Alex how he feels, when the time is right-but how will he know when that is? Alex is terrified to reveal those ‘three little words’ certain Drew doesn’t feel the same, and she’ll lose the only family she has.

Should Alex and Drew open their hearts, and risk being crushed? Should they be satisfied with a deep, lifelong friendship? Or does the only chance for happiness lie…
Somewhere In Between?
My Review:

As I read the first three chapters of this book, I kept thinking I had read it before. Typically this would not be a good thing, but in the case of this book? It’s actually quite positive.
Samantha Harris crafts two characters who pull you into their story, right from the start. Yes, you’ve seen this plot before: the couple made for each other don’t realize they belong together until time and circumstance prove otherwise. Yet Drew and Alex are so engaging that you forget the familiarity of their story.

When our lovebirds meet, it is under less than auspicious circumstances. Drew is a known player, a guy with a storied history of one-night stands. To say that Alex is unimpressed is to wildly understate her initial reaction. But Drew senses something in her, something aside from his feral attraction to her. He realizes that he needs her in his life, and he will take her on her terms. Theirs will be a friendship and nothing else.

Harris alternates between Drew’s POV at the start of their relationship to Alex’s present-day POV, six years after she and Drew meet. It’s an interesting device because you understand Drew’s early and developing feelings for the girl he calls Red and her more seasoned feelings about him. She is determined to the point of obstinance to avoid any emotional entanglements with Drew.

Drew, bless him, exercises tremendous patience, surprising himself perhaps most of all. You will find herself screaming at her to realize the obvious, but one thing Samantha Harris does very effectively is create realistic, grounded reasons for Alex’s aversion to romance with Drew. She needs a friend. She needs someone on her side, and she worries that Drew’s pattern of rocking the headboard one night and forgetting the girl completely the next would be repeated with her.

About that headboard rocking. Don’t you worry, faithful readers, that in keeping Drew and Alex apart that Harris will deny you the sexy times. They are here, and they are pretty fabulous. Strap on your vibrators, girls, as you discover that the girls who agree to Drew’s terms get something very fulfilling out of it … if you know what I mean (wink wink).

I enjoyed this book, largely because of Drew. I sympathized with Alex, but I liked Drew. He’s just an endearing guy. Give this romance a try and see if you can avoid falling for Drew.

I walked into Spike’s a half hour later and David was already there with a pitcher of beer and a huge plate of nachos. I gave him a hug, clapping him on the back.
“You look like shit,” he said.
“Thanks.”
“What’s up? Rough night?” He didn’t even know the half of it.
“If we are going to get into this, I’m going to need a shot.” I flagged down the waitress and ordered a shot of Jack Daniels.
“This is serious,” David said.
The waitress came back quickly with my drink and set it down in front of me with a glare. She looked familiar, but I couldn’t place her.  I took the shot and waved at the waitress to bring me another.
“Dude, what is with you?”
“Alex. Fucking Alex”
“You’re fucking Alex?”
“What? No! I’m not fucking her. I’m starting to, you know…”
“You’re starting to what?” A ghost of a grin appeared on his face.
“Come on, man. Don’t make me say it.”
“Oh, I’m going to make you say it.”
“I’m starting to have feelings for her, okay, asshole! Is that what you want to hear?” I dropped my head into my hands.
“To be honest, I didn’t think you were capable.”
“Of what? Having feelings? Or falling for her?”
“Falling for her?” he asked. “You said you were starting to have feelings for her. Now you are falling for her?”
“Yeah. So?” I stared down into my beer, unable to look him in the eye.
“So? There is a big difference, man. You have feelings for some nice girl you’ve been out with a few times. You fall for the girl and game over.”
“Look, I don’t know which one it is, okay? This shit is new to me. I don’t do relationships. Hell, I do everything I can to avoid them.”
“That’s for damn sure,” the waitress mumbled, slamming my drink down in front of me.
“I’m sorry. Do I know you?” I snapped.
Her eyes narrowed and she slapped me hard across my cheek. She glared at me for a minute before I noticed her name tag. Tracy. Shit, she was that girl from before the house warming party. Well, that explained the slap. She huffed and stomped off as I pressed a hand to my cheek. I guess I deserved that.
David was trying desperately to contain his laughter and I glared at him as I tossed back the second shot. Odds are Tracy probably spit in it.
Samatha “Sam” Harris lives near Baltimore, Maryland with her husband David and daughter Ava. Born in Florida, she migrated north which most people agree was a little backwards. She has been an artist all of her life, a Tattoo Artist for more than ten years, and a storyteller since she was a kid.
Sam has a slightly unhealthy love for Frank Sinatra, classic movies, and Jazz and Blues music, but her first love will always be reading. From Romance, to Thrillers, to Historical Fiction and everything in between, she loves to become a part of the story. As a writer she tells the stories that she would want to read.

My Review

When last we saw Logan and Elle, he was a bit concerned that her life was being threatened by members of a Boston Irish mob.

Crush opens up moments after Blow concludes, letting you see immediately the ramifications of Logan’s fears. For a while (several chapters), it seems as if he and Elle won’t – can’t – figure out how to be together, given their respective family complications. The good news is that Kim Karr doesn’t play a yo-yo guessing game with you. Whatever mysteries are present in this book, Logan and Elle’s relationship is not one of them, which makes this a pretty sweet change from most romance novels.

What will keep you guessing is the cause of the threat to Elle. You know that there is a drug dealer causing problems in Boston, you know that the mob is somehow involved, you know that Logan’s family is somewhat at war with another family, you know that Elle’s brother-in-law is up to some squirrelly stuff, and you know that her sister is nothing but trouble.

So how will this impact Logan and Elle? Well, that’s why you need to read the book.

One of the benefits of not keeping us guessing about their romance is that Kim Karr gets to treat us to some awesomely hot headboard rocking. Strap on your vibrators, girls, because Logan and Elle’s sexy times will leave you wanting. And you don’t want to want, do you?  The thing about their sexual congress, though, is that it is integral to their connection. (And I don’t mean just THAT connection, you perv.) Logan needs Elle, and for him that need manifests itself in the sex. In those moments, he lets her into his heart and his soul, so sex is more than just a thing. It’s a true connection.

There are times that the drama in this book gets intense, but Karr keeps things moving along, and her plot is not so convoluted that you can’t keep track of who’s doing what to whom and why.

Logan and Elle are a hot romance novel couple, and I’ve enjoyed their story.

Excerpt

Elle Sterling

The coolness of the night air had begun to set in. With the suddenly harsher wind, Lindsay and I both felt the chill and even in our heels, we hastened our pace.

As soon as we walked into the hotel suite, I was assaulted by the tang of a sticky, sweet scent. It was the smell of pot. Never one to try it myself, in my travels I’d come across many people who had. Moldy grass was how I’d always described the smell.

Lindsay shot me a glance and confirmed my suspicion.

Hard rock blared through the open space. The patio doors were open and I saw the back of two heads flopped on the lounge chairs. Even over the music, I heard laughter rumbling into the room. I was glad that at least Logan was upbeat.

Lindsay started for them and looked at me. “Shhh.”

I followed, keeping my mouth shut.

We both approached, eager to see our men, but stopped at the edge of door to watch them. They were playing cards and a baggie of pot was on the floor.

James had changed and was now wearing sleep pants and a T-shirt. He had a cigar gripped between his teeth while he tossed two piles of cards onto the table between them.

Logan was still in his suit pants but had removed everything else. Everything. Outside in his pants only, I wondered how he wasn’t freezing until I looked up and saw the heat lamps were on.

“Baby, you’re going to stink,” Lindsay said loudly, breaking the silence.

Both men jerked their heads back.

The smile that spread across Logan’s face was slow and seductive.

Sexy.

The sight of him dried my throat and made my heart pound. Right then I didn’t care about anything but comforting him through kisses.

Lindsay was still talking, saying something about the rancid smell of the cigar.

Me, I was already leaning over Logan and placing my lips very close to his. “Are you okay?”

“I am now.”

“You sure?”

He nodded and said, “Don’t listen to James. He likes to be a drama queen.”

“I heard that.”

Ignoring James, Logan gave me a single tug and pulled me onto his lap. I found myself provocatively straddling him. His cards fell to the floor, but I heard no one complain. And then his hands anchored my hips as his mouth attacked mine, while my hands gripped his shoulders for support.

“Where are your clothes?” I managed to ask.

The corners of his lips tilted up. “We had a small wrestling match and my shirt took the brunt of the action.”

I laughed.

Boys will be boys.

My dress had ridden up and if anyone was looking, they could see my panties. I just didn’t care enough right then to see what James and Lindsay were doing.

I should have cared. I should have cared just how inebriated or high Logan was. I should have, but his primal response to my presence did something to me that made me want to be what he needed. Made me want to be wild and free for once in my entire life.

Maybe it was the Lindsay effect.

His kiss traveled from the corner of my mouth, along my jaw, to my throat.

My hands moved higher to toy with his hair behind his neck.

His teeth were sharp as they skidded across my skin, but the soft heat from his tongue soothed the burn.

I turned my head to give him full access, and that was when I saw Lindsay’s head moving towards James’s lap.

Again, I should have cared, but I just didn’t.

I wasn’t sure if Logan noticed, but he turned my chin to look at him. “We should go home,” he slurred. The way his eyes flickered over me so intensely made the idea of waiting for a cab and then riding home in one seem like it would take a lifetime.

With my hands flat on his bare chest, I found myself scooting up his body, stopping only when the soft fabric of my wet panties aligned perfectly with the tented fabric of his slacks. “I want you now,” I whispered.

Logan’s tongue flicked out to wet his lips. “I’m drunk, probably not the best idea.”

I raised myself ever so slightly and lowered my body, making the most exquisite contact with his erection. “I’m not and you seem just fine.”

His hand stroked my hair and pulled out the clip holding it up. “You want this? Here?”

My breath was wild. My nipples taut. My clit was pulsing. I realized I was excited. “Yes, I want you to take me here.”

His gaze slid to the side and so did mine. James was thrusting into Lindsay’s mouth. “James!” Logan shouted.

A grunt was his only reply.

“Hurry up and get the fuck inside, will you.”

Again, a grunt was his response.

Logan’s attention back on me, his hands threaded through my hair and slid over my shoulders and down my arms to capture my hands. He pressed our palms together so that our fingers were linked and drew in a shuddering breath. “You’re so beautiful. You know that?”

“I love you.” I’m not sure why I felt compelled to tell him that, but the way he looked at me when I did made me feel like we’d both found true love in each other, and all the worries that messed with my thoughts evaporated as his gaze flared. All that mattered was him. Comforting him. Getting him through this. Being here—for him.

He brought me to him with a hand to the back of my head, holding me in place while he kissed me breathless, maybe hard enough that he might have bruised my mouth.

Again, I didn’t care.

The kiss went on and on and when he finally pulled away, I hadn’t had nearly enough of him. It was when my eyes fell to the bag of joints on the ground that I realized Logan did not taste of thyme or moldy grass or smell like skunk, and I was a little glad that he hadn’t gotten high. I had a feeling he had struggled with drugs during his life and with my own father being an alcoholic, I was all too familiar with the claim that addictive habits were hereditary.

Another sideways glance on his part had my gaze following. “Finally,” he muttered. The lounge beside us was now empty, as was the living area. James and Lindsay must have gone into the bedroom. Logan must have been waiting for them to leave.

Knowing we were alone, lust won out over good sense and I stood and stripped myself naked.

Logan drew in a shuddering breath and stood as well, shedding his pants and underwear quickly.

I stared at him, naked and beautiful, and licked my lips. That card I’d seen in the store came to mind. Just because my issues might never allow me to be submissive didn’t mean I couldn’t be the dominant type.

He held out his hand for me to take it and instead I pointed to a chair next to the lounger. “Sit down.”

“Don’t you want to go inside?” he asked.

I shook my head. “No, sit down.”

He raised a brow.

I kept my finger pointed.

No one could see us up this high and with the heat lamps on, something about fucking outside felt incredibly erotic.

A slow, seductive smile spread across his lips, and as he sat his eyes looked like dark flames. The hazel was gone, replaced by dilated pupils that bled pure lust.

Since I was already drenched, he easily slid inside me as I sat on his cock.

The sensation of him filling me made me shout out, and Logan wasn’t exactly quiet himself. I heard pleasurable groans escape his throat.

This was what we both needed.

Each other.

I just hoped it would be like this forever.

My hands were not bound but they gripped the chair, my back was to his chest, and my legs were spread wide. I was open to him. Fully and completely open to him. In this position, I was his to do with whatever he pleased.

It was then I realized that in our relationship we didn’t need a dominant or a submissive. We only needed each other.

And as his palm found my breast and his fingers pressed against my clit, I closed my eyes and relished what I had with him.

For us…give and take was all we needed.
